Well, at least two teams among the 12 that played had fun last night: my team (Keith/Mike/Me) and the winning team: Andrew A./Phil/Terry H./Sharky! The latter took the honors (and the $111-to be split 4 ways) with a winning card of -13, missing birdies only on holes 2, 4, 6, 12 and 16. :D (Gee, 12 and 16 were two of the three birdies we got on the back 9! ) I believe Little Joe's team came in at -12, and there were 3@-11, 3@-10, a -9, and assorted aslo-rans, two of whom didn't return their cards. :|
No aces.

Even though the round ended with considerable light remaining, nobody played "Cups." Remember when "Cups" was da bomb?

Based on the enlivened personalities noted last night, it would have been a good night to have had the suds concession. :creers3:
:cheers4: :dutchguy: :stars:

But there's no excuse for bad-mouthing people on the course. :respekt: :rifle: We all pay to play and have fun. Let's respect that.

A number of people have commented about empties that the sudsies have been littering the course with. Simply smashing a can and leaving it on the ground is NOT acceptable behavior. If you carried it onto the course full, you can carry it off empty! Leaving bottles behind is even worse because they are a pain in the ass for others to clean up after, and they create a safety issue as well as a poor image for the course. PACK IT IN - PACK IT OUT.

Turbo wrote:After considerable thought, the best way appears to be to use an approach similar to what we did to implement the "no two '5's" criterion last week: with the dice. All "1"s will be placed in a separate bag, similar to the way we handle the "5"s. After the "5"s are placed using the dice, a "1" will be placed with each "5" in the order chosen, by drawing them from the bag; i.e., the 1st "1" out of the bag goes with the 1st "5;" the 2nd "1" out of the bag goes with the 2nd "5;" etc. ...

The process described above will not be popular with "5"s, and it could dissuade current or potential "5"s from having that rating. However, teams with a "5" and a "1" still can get a "4," "3" or "2." The benefit to the "1"s is obvious: they'll be playing with (and learning from) the best players. I understand that it also could encourage more "bagger" "1"s to stay that way. This will require some policing by other players to overcome. Finally, placing a "1" with a "5" serves as a de facto handicap for the "5," which is not terribly unreasonable. :|

I plan to try this approach this week. If it's a bust, we'll adjust.

The "5"s didn't all have fun last night, nor did all of the "1"s. :furious3: :whip: The system broke down when we had just two "1"s and two "5"s. Placing the "1"s with the "5"s meant no other teams had "1"s - just the "5"s, which turned out to be too discriminatory. Consequently, we'll adjust next week. We will not automatically place a "1" with each "5".

Wood tees next week. 5:55 draw.

We had a fair turnout for Triples last night: 12 teams comprising 36 players. No team was rated lower than "7," with two teams led by resident "5"s, No Spin and Toby, and three "1"s populating other teams. The course played tough, as usual, from the long ("wood") tees, as evidenced by the early finishing scores (-4, -3, etc.). Nonetheless, there were some solid teams competing, and Team Badger/Keith B./P-Lick took the $36/person prize by carding a -10, with birdies on 1, 4, 8-10, 12, 13, 16-18. Well done!

Also-rans included -8, 2@-7, -6, 2@-5, 3@-4, -3 and even. No aces.

I forgot to pull the cards for the worst-starting positions prior to tee assignments, which might have contributed to several back-ups. Another backup occurred at #10 when one team was drawn to the bench area for an extended break and left the tee unprotected, allowing another team to leap-frog them.

The post-round activities centered around chili consumption. We had a few raffle ticket sales, but several potential purchasers demurred when they caught wind of our plan to offer a free margarita (or beer) with each 3-ticket purchase next week at TNT. :sombrero: (A decision is pending regarding retroactive ticket sales.)

Par for the course, we the people who can't always make it out to play are left wondering about the excitement missed... There was however some excitement in other parts of the city:

the best comment on that story so far (with references to The Wire):

"Pretty sure you can see the different enforcement officer camps arguing about whose jurisdiction belongs to the situation. Nobody wants the hassle of enforcing the law.
Or maybe Lester Freamon was leading the case and he was collecting evidence on the kid. He quickly set up a wire tap and was observing the pattern that this runner was using to commit his crimes. If only the word from superiors to swoop in didn't come too soon, he'd have made a big arrest that would have implicated Peter Angelos in the murder of the Orioles franchise. "

Sixteen teams (48 players) battled last night for the glory (and the $48/person payout) from the short (metal) tees. The teams played the long positions on holes #3 and #12. Team Bruce/Jesse F./Skinny Ryan took the honors with a -13 (birdies on 1, 2, 4 thru 8, 10 and 13 thru 17). One team came in at -11, four at -10, one at -9, two at -8, four at -7, and the other three at -6, -5 and -3.

There was some confusion during the payout because Bruce had gone back out on the course, so his share of the winnings was handed to his teammates to give to him. However, when they couldn't find him, they split his share. Eventually, Bruce reappeared, and Skinny Ryan gave him $24, but Jesse had since vacated with the other $24. Yours truly made up the $24 to Bruce, and Jesse owes me $24. :!:

[Note for future reference: If you can't find your teammate(s) to pay him/her their share, return the money to the TNT director to ensure that the right person gets the money. :? ]

Eric Queen (red Jeep Eric) canned an ace on #13 for a tidy $212! The ace payout next week will begin at at $106. The draw will begin at 5:55.

Thanks. The $212 likely made up for the misnomer.

i was on 14 and saw the disc hit the bottom of the basket. it didn't hit chains so it only made a thud. when i looked back to see if it was an upshot or a drive (becuase there was no hooting or hollering) the group was only high fiving for a nice shot. i said "it's in!" and they started hooting and hollering. then i yelled back "just kidding!" fortunately they didn't hear that part.

I usually have to work thursday nights but if i get one off soon i will definatly be out to participate in the TNT.

Turbo, you are a gentleman and a scholar – thank you! Apologies for causing confusion on the payout (especially since my teammates deserve the overwhelming majority of the credit . . .).

It should be a fine night for Triples tomorrow; the rain should have cleared by draw time, and the light breeze will be from the NW. The draw, as before, is planned to start at 5:55; wood tees; ace payout $106+.

Two waves of thunderstorms rolled in last night, clearing before 5:00. Thirty players then rolled in, and the draw commenced around 6:00. Ten teams ventured out in search of gold from the long tees. Team Eric/Jake/Little Joe succeeded with a score of -10 (one bogey), with the 2nd place team at -9, 3rd at -8 and two teams at -7. Assorted also-rans came in at -2, -2 and -1, with three teams failing to turn in their cards. The winners collected $30/person. There were no aces.
