Scarboro Scorcher

Postby cfoodchef » Thu Sep 03, 2009 4:45 pm

Well after 14 months of grueling training I played my first tournament.
I must say, that it was quite an experience. I can tell you that casual play, tag challenges and doubles do not prepare you for tournament day. My nerves were shot before I even went to bed the night before the tournament and because of that, many of my throws suffered; lack of follow through, short putts, low putts, high putts...
but in spite of my rather "lack-luster" performance(67, 66), I had a freakin' awesome time.
It was great to see the course full, the tournament sold-out, and the reactions from the players to the new layout. I was talking with some folks that said things to the effect "...I had been here in the past and the course was not this challenging" or "...this course never used to be this left-handed friendly"
So while I still struggle with some of the newer positions (#16 & #17), the reaction by many folks was positive; to the degree that many said that they would not only be back, but would also be spreading the news! Maybe they can beat a better path for me through #16 & #17 ? !

Anyway, I just wanted to post Kudos to all the guys that made the day possible.

One year later...looks like you just missed the cash. You'll get 'em next year.

What a great day for a tournament. Thanks everyone for coming out and filling the Scorcher for the second year in a row. We love seeing everybody out at the course and hope you enjoyed yourselves. Thanks to all our sponsors and especially Brian and Joel of Disc Outfitters, you guys make running a tournament so much easier for us. All the Ams got to choose their prizes from thier traveling pro shop. Also like to thank Harford County Parks and Rec. for supporting the course as much as they do. We were able to raise $350 to add to the Pro payouts.

Congrats to Karl wit a K for winning the open division (final score 101), lighting up the course with a record breaking 46 the second round and an unofficial round rating of 1034. Bryan McAlees (109) representing Delaware, won in the Masters division. We had a three way tie for the Grandmaster division, all three in the division shot a 114. Another Delawarean, Trevor Willey edged out Sharky and Dan Thessen in a playoff.

In the Ams, Mike Peyton took home the Advanced division beating out a local, Steve Campbell. Another local, Bill Harper (120) tied Jeff Ross for the Advanced Master division. Bill ended up winning in the playoff. One more Delawarean, Wesley Little came in and won the Intermediate Division with a 115. We had one lady playing in her own Advanced division that took home some nice prizes, along with three juniors. Taylor May in FJ3, Ryan Ramer in MJ2, and Matt Kashima in MJ3. I got a chance to watch Matt play a few holes. This kid will be someone to keep an eye on in the near future, he's got some skills. Out drove some of the men he was playing with and I saw him bang a 50' putt on hole 5 for a deuce. Also worth mentioning that Taylor scored a three on hole 17 the second round. An honorable mention goes out to Shelley Thessen for mixing it up with the guys in the Intermediate division (beating a few of them).
