FUFA down on the Farm

Postby FUFABud » Fri May 02, 2008 1:37 pm

A gusty wind and fair skies greeted the Frostburg University Frisbee Association members when we played last night.

Doug grabbed the game by the scruff of it's neck on the opening tee-off when he threw a seeing-eye disc that wound it's way around the trees and parked it nearby for an easy duece.
The wind pushed several discs across the path into the poison ivy on the right of two. As usual, we play-em where they land. FUFA official flower...Poison Ivy!
FUFA rule #1...there are no out of bounds. "Disc Golf without boundries"

Play was lackluster from the rest of us while Doug was smokin' hot on the front nine.
On 11 he shot from nearly the poison ivy by the path, a huge arcing shot that missed the basket by about a foot, plummetting straight down.
On 12 Doug and Ron both placed their discs so close to the basket that they could have hit their heads on the basket picking up their disc's!
As usual, Charlie had the putting game down, draining several long shots.

Doug won with ease.
Next game: Patapsco. 5/8/08 @ 5:30.

Is it true the main crop for Kinder Farm was poison ivy?

The poison ivy plants on #2 are quite aggressive. Usually you see them as more of a vine, but those are more like saplings!.

I've done my share of itchin'-N-scratchin' from this couse over the years...

The terrible heat and humidity has broken, and FUFA plays another game of gang golf at Kinder. Blue skys, gentle winds, bright sunshine, temperatures in the 80's and low flying jets.

Picnicers were impressed by my first drive, parking it about 30 feet from the basket. Rookie Warren nearly took them out on his first drive, but they had a good laugh about it.
Ron had a great drive on two, laying it right in the middle. Multiple deuces occured on three.
I had another good drive on 5, parking it to the left of the basket, but I missed the putt. I had another good drive on 7, the drive low under the trees and breaking to the right. Another missed putt.
At the turn, Doug and Ron were tied, with Mike the Wuss and Charlie breathing down their necks.
On eleven, a bunch of us either visited the poison ivy on the right or into the deep brush on the left. I laid it up in front of the first basket. Charlie threw his disc up and over the brush, I saw it come crashing straight down about 20 feet from the second basket. 20 minutes later we still could not find the damned disc and Charlie declared a lost disc, and took the stroke penalty.
On 12 Ron and I both smacked the port-a-pottie with a resounding BOOM like a bass drum! The groundhogs scattered from our drives on 14. Rookie Warren bothered the red wing black birds when his drive hooked left into the marsh on 15. On 16 Ron smacked the big evergreen about 15 feet up and the disc didn't come down. He bought the mulligan and re-teed. After play on 17, we found Charlie's lost disc right next to the #2 basket! How we missed it I'll never know. Driving off on 18 the disc slipped out of my sweaty hand and landed about twenty feet to the right. I bought the mulligan and redrove for a positive effect.
At the end Charlie, overcame the lost disc penalty and nipped John by a stroke for the win.

Next game, the Annual Summer Solstice Double Header at College Park.
Thursday June 19th at 5pm. Everybody welcome!

I play kinder often since I only live 3 miles away. We've developed a 20 hole course to make it more challenging and interesting. Next time you head that way call me, 443-739-6160, and I'll drop off a map of the K20.
See you next wednesday!

Here's a map for the Kinder 20.
It crosses over the bike path in a couple spots, and crosses over itself in many others. For that reason we usually end up playing on Tuesdays (when the parking lots are closed and the park is almost empty), or when there aren't many other golfers using the course.

1 is from the road sign to basket 1
2 is from tee 2 to basket 9
3 is normal course 1
4 is normal course 2
5 is normal course 3 but from just in front of the picnic table
6 is from the crossed out section of the handicapped space to 3(never seen the space in use)
7 is from the wooden sign to basket 7
8 is from tee 4 to basket 5
9 is from tee 6 to basket 4
10 is normal course 5
11 is normal course 6
12 is normal course 7
13 is from bbq grill to basket 4
14 is from birdhouse to basket 3
15 is normal course 4
16 is birdhouse to basket 7
17 is to basket 6
18 is to basket 4
19 is to basket 3
20 is normal course 8

Thanks . . . edits made to original post.

Lost disc at Kinder Park

Postby tim e » Mon Jun 16, 2008 2:10 pm

I lost/left behind a "creamscicle" yellow/orange Star Wraith at Kinder Park on Friday afternoon. Most likely on #9 (or 2 depending on what course your playing). I must have not picked it up when I was emptying my bag on the last hole of the round. It has my name and phone # on it
thanks

I was going to play Kinder on sunday afternoon, but remembered it used to be pretty crowded on weekends. Is that still the case?
Is it possible to play the 20 on a weekend?
What time does the park open on weekends (I usually play the Rock at 6:30 or 7 on Sat and/or Sun)?

its hit or miss as far as the crowd goes but usually not crowded at all.
we play the 20 all the time and sometimes we have to wait, but that's ok.
when does it open? couldn't tell you, i'm a late riser.
